Finger Paints Recap

24 Dec

Unlike other product categories, with fingerpaints there tended to be very little middle ground as to how made in America they were.  Of the seven that we reviewed, three of them were entirely made in the USA and the other four were very much not.

The three five-star American Alternative-rated Finger paints are the Eco-Kids Eco-Finger Paints, the Crayola Washable Finger Paints, and the Clementine Art Natural Paint Set, and any of them would make a great gift for a little budding artist.

Of those three, the Crayola Washable Finger Paints are the most mainstream and the most readily available.  They also cost the least and will be the easiest to clean up because they come in EZ Squeeze bottles instead of plastic tubs.  And they are completely non-toxic (you can download their material data safety document here).

But if you want to go further than just the legal definition of “non-toxic” you can go the extra mile with either the Clementine Art set or the Eco-Kids set.  Both are small, home-grown companies and both of their sets are hand-made out of natural organic ingredients.  Of the two, I’d personally recommend the Clementine Art Natural Paint Set because the Eco-Finger Paint comes as colored powders that need to be mixed with water, creating an extra hassle every time your kid wants to use them.  And as you can see in the price chart below, if you buy the Clementine Art set from Amazon.com, the price difference isn’t as great as they would be if you bought full price retail.

Note that prices in this chart are as of Dec 2011.
